Wilma Louise McClung Lakeland – Wilma Louise McClung passed away at the age of 94 on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Lakeland Regional Health Center in Lakeland, FL. She was born on June 23, 1923, in Weston, West Virginia, where she grew up on a dairy farm and graduated with an education degree from Alderson Broaddus University. She was married to Dana Dixon McClung who preceded her in death. Together they had five children: Dana Sue Miller of Morrisville, NY, Frank Dixon McClung (deceased), Donald Lee McClung of Lakeland, FL, Walter Leslie McClung (deceased) and David Wayne McClung of Dover, DE. Wilma also has five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Wilma raised her family in Greensboro, MD, and Milford, DE, where she taught elementary school. After retiring from teaching in Delaware, she moved to West Virginia and continued her teaching there. She was a member of the Broad Run Baptist Church in Jane Lew, WV. She also attended American Baptist Church of Lakeland. Finally retiring in 1997, she moved to Lakeland as a winter resident of Woodbrook Estates. At Woodbrook Estates, Wilma was a three-time president of the Shuffleboard club. She remained active in Shuffleboard winning one tournament this past season. She liked to cruise and went on her dream “Christmas Cruise” this past December. Wilma participated in several West Virginia Senior Olympic games and was awarded Miss Congeniality in 2009 and was the 2nd place female in 2010. She remained active making pies for the Mother’s Day luncheon just this past weekend. She also had an annual “Wilma’s Waffle” event for the residents of Woodbrook Estates. Last year 49 people attended. Wilma’s request for cremation has been honored. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 26, 2018 at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Ave., Lakeland, FL 33801.
