William Leon Scarbrough, 86 Lakeland-William Leon Scarbrough died September 28, 2015 at home after a long illness. He was born April 19, 1929 in Thomasville, Alabama. After graduating from Thomasville High School in 1947, he served in United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1959. He was employed by the Geological Survey of the State of Alabama where he developed many programs for the State of Alabama in Ground Water research. In 1973, he developed and operated a Geological and Environmental Consulting firm in Lakeland, Florida. Upon Retirement he continued a career in Geology and Real-estate. Mr. Scarbrough is preceded in death by his parents, William Young Scarbrough and Louise Hill Scarbrough, step mother, Louise Crocker Scarbrough and brother, Carroll Scarbrough. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Katheryn Tew Scarbrough, Lakeland, Florida, Son, Blake Scarbrough (Chris), Lakeland, Florida, daughter, Khakie Maulden (Chris), Lakeland, Florida. Also survived by his sisters, Betty Kaye Wood (Rex), Thomasville, Alabama, Ruby Smith (Glen), Camden, Alabama, sister-in-law, Dot Scarbrough, Thomasville, Alabama. Memorials may be made to V.I.S.T.E., 1232 E. Magnolia, Lakeland, FL 33801. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
