Lakeland " William Lee Phillips, Sr. 79, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012, as the result of a plane accident. He was born June 11, 1932 in Lakeland, Florida. He was a lifetime Polk County resident and a United States Marine veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the City of Lakeland Fire Department, in 1982 to begin his own business. Lee and his wife owned and operated Central Florida Trolling Motor Repair and Phillips Bait & Tackle for twenty-nine years. Lee is survived by his loving family: wife of 45 years, Julia Phillips, his sons, William ""Bill"" Phillips Jr., James Phillips, daughter Melinda Lapina and husband David, 4 grandchildren: Jada, Cody, Joshua & Austin and his sister, Julie Thornhill. Visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:00 till 11:00 AM at Heath Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held following the visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either: EAA Young Eagles Program, Experimental Aircraft Association, P.O. Box 3816, Oshkosh, WI 54903 or the Salvation Army.
