William David Verplanck

January 20, 1950 — January 2, 2024

William (Bill) Verplanck of Lakeland Florida passed away Tuesday morning January 2, 2024. Bill was born January 20, 1950, in Edmore, Michigan where he grew up. He was a graduate of Edmore High School, class of 1968. He was drafted into the army in 1969 during the Vietnam war and served two years in Germany. After the service Bill moved to Lakeland in 1972 where he began working for G.E. Bray Plumbing and learned the plumbing trade. He married Holly in 1978 and later that year started his plumbing business, Verplanck Plumbing, Inc. He was a very hard worker and successful businessman. He believed in taking care of his employees who helped make his business so successful. He enjoyed spending time in the summer with his family in his hometown of Edmore and riding bikes exploring his favorite place Mackinac Island.


Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Helen Verplanck, and his brother, Jon Verplanck. He is survived by his wife, Holly; 2 daughters, Erin Smith (Lucas), Karen McCallum (Cory); son, Garrett Verplanck; 3 grandsons, Mason Smith, Jackson McCallum, and Maxwell McCallum; brother, Jim Verplanck (Laura); sister, Susan Kotenko (Ron); sister-in-law, Darci Meyer and many loving nieces and nephews.


Worship to memorialize Bill’s life will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, Florida. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Alliance for Independence “Empowering Adults w/ Disabilities” (at: AFI-fl.org) or First United Methodist Church.
