William (Bill) Francis Dettling

William F (Bill) Dettling, age 75, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in Lakeland, Florida. Bill was born on September 27, 1944, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the late, William and Mary Dettling. He graduated from Chelsea High School, Chelsea, Michigan. Bill started working for the Polk County Fire Recue in 1976 and retired in 2004 but remained as an active volunteer until his passing. He served at several stations throughout the county, including most recently, the Medulla and Highland City Stations. Between working in Michigan and in Polk County, Bill had over 50 years of dedication and service as a fireman. Bill also served in the United States Army. He was a member of Highland Park Church of the Nazarene for over 38 years. Bill enjoyed camping in the many Florida State Parks, attending Tampa Bay Lighting games, watching college football (especially the University of Michigan) and best of all family gatherings playing corn hole. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents, William and Mary Dettling, and Alfred and Mary Carlos. He is survived by his wife, Janelle (Jan) Dettling, children, Paul (Joy) Dettling of Savannah, GA, Perry (Vanessa) Dettling of Savannah, GA, Peter (Jennifer) Dettling of Lakeland, FL, Chad (Tamara) Dettling of Winter Haven, FL, Angela (Eric) Sullivan of Lakeland, FL, step son, Gordon McLain of Lakeland, 8 grandchildren, Payten, Chelsea, Christopher, Cambryn, Kylie, Chloe, Annabelle and Hunter, sibling, Tom Dettling of Chelsea, MI, and many cousins in Michigan. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend that will be missed greatly by all that knew him. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am with services following at 11:00 am at Highland Park Church of the Nazarene, 4777 Lakeland Highlands Rd, Lakeland, FL 33813.
