Weymon Preston Snuggs, Jr.,

Weymon Preston Snuggs Jr. Lakeland – Weymon Preston Snuggs, Jr., passed away Friday, August 10, 2018, at Lakeland Regional Health. He was born on December 29, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama to Weymon Preston Snuggs and Miriam Milner Snuggs. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and received his master’s degree from Samford University. He also attended additional graduate programs at Harvard University, Michigan State University and the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Weymon served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 in the 86th Fighter Bomber Wing, stationed in Wichita, Kansas, and Landstuhl, Germany. He worked for Southern Company Services for 31 years and he also taught Economics at Jefferson State Junior College in Birmingham, Alabama for 36 years. Weymon was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, where he served on the administrative board and other church committees for over 30 years. He also had a great passion for singing in the church choir. He was a member of the Rotary Club for many years, serving as president from 1976-1977. In 2004, Weymon and his wife Ann became members of First United Methodist Church when they moved to Lakeland to be closer to family. He enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing and, most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved life and loved meeting people. He never met a stranger and he had an incredible ability to connect with people immediately. Weymon was preceded in death by his father, Weymon Snuggs; mother, Miriam Snuggs; brother, Dr. H Milner Snuggs; and a great-granddaughter, Trinity Alexis Horton. He is survived by his wife Ann Snuggs of 62 years of Birmingham, Alabama, and Lakeland, Florida; son, Weymon Preston Snuggs, and wife, Wendy, of Lakeland, Florida; daughter, Allison Johnston, and husband, Wayne, of Jacksonville; Florida; sister-in-law, Betty Jane Snuggs, of Birmingham, Alabama; nephew, Bill, and niece, Emily; five grandchildren, Tracee, Whitney, Kelley, Kevin and Kayla; and six great-grandchildren, Carter, Cohen, James, Jacqueline, Marlin and Finn. The family wants to thank Lakeland Regional Health, Brookdale Highlands and Opis Highlands Lake Center for the tremendous care that has been provided to him over the last several years. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, Florida 33801.
