Urbicia Cobielles

April 1, 1937 — October 29, 2018

Lakeland - Urbicia Cobielles, 81, passed Monday, October 29th, 2018. Born on Thursday, April 1st, 1937 in Jatibonico, Cuba. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Cobielles, Nery Leach and Neicy McGrath, all of Lakeland, Florida. Grandchildren: Humberto Leach Jr., Jillian Lopez, Amanda Leach, Iliana Castro, Diana Legon, Kenia Rodriguez, Derek McGrath and Annie McGrath. Great-grandchildren: Humberto Leach III, Gabriel Leach, Glissen Bandera, Jordan Bandera, Jake Bandera, Isla Castro and Milo Lopez. Due to political turmoil, the Cobielles family fled Cuba in 1967. Settled in Lakeland, Florida August 16th, 1967, the Cobielles family quickly became U.S. citizens, and the couple raised their family and became pillars in their community. Friends will remember Urbicia as a kind, loving and hardworking person. She was self-sacrificing and lived for her family. Urbicia loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often caring for each one. She enjoyed traveling back to Cuba whenever she could to visit her only brother, Felix Gonzalez, and two nieces, Mariela Gonzalez and Arlety Gonzalez Hernandez. Urbicia was a strong-willed person who survived her late husband at the young age of 44 years old. Vicente Cobielles passed November 25th, 1981, and was the love of her life. Never remarried, Urbicia lived her life for her family. She enjoyed sweets and coconut/sugarcane juice and never learned how to swim. Everyone referred to her as “grandma.” She always had something funny to say and she had a very special connection to each person she loved. Urbicia was respected and admired by her family and was the matriarch that held the family together. We all strive to be half the person she was. It is easy to be saddened for this loss one may feel, but we must remember that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). That promise is the peace we must find from this loss. Urbicia is no longer suffering; her body, mind and soul are at peace with our Lord and Savior. Grandma would not want us to mourn long for her passing. She would want us to live full and happy lives. It is important to teach and remind our little ones of the love given to us from her, because we are who we are from her sacrifices and choices she has made throughout her life. Rest in peace dearest Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. May you look down from Heaven and Smile for you are with the Lord and our Guardian Angel. We love you so very much.
