Sherman Edmund (“Sherm”) Harrington Jr. passed away after a brief illness with family at his side on March 15, 2023. He was 89 years old and had been a resident of Sandpiper in Lakeland for many years. He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Ann Adams Harrington. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Deann Harrington of Lakeland, FL and his son, Scott Sherman Harrington and his wife, Monica Goyal, and grandson, Devin from Toronto, Canada.
Sherm was born on August 13, 1933, in Pittsfield, ME to Kathleen M. Harrington and Sherman E. Harrington, Sr. Sherm grew up in Cherryfield, Maine with his parents and brother Norris. While growing up he helped his family with their grocery store. At the age of 18, he joined the Air Force, and this became his career for the next 20 years.
Sherm met his future wife, Elizabeth (“Betty”) Adams, and was married in 1966. She and her family were also from Cherryfield, Maine. They raised two children, Cindy Deann, and Scott Sherman. Sherm served his country as a military policeman and OSI agent until his retirement from the Air Force, after which he earned a BA in Criminal Justice. After that, he and his family returned to Maine again. He served as a city councilman in Brewer, ME, and as a police officer and deputy sheriff at various departments. After his second retirement, he and Betty moved to Lakeland, FL where they enjoyed many years together in the sunshine.
Sherm was a great storyteller. He loved reading newspapers and novels and was very intrigued and well-informed about the happenings of the world. He enjoyed sharing his thoughts and visiting with others. In earlier years he and his family enjoyed their ski boat and swimming. Sherm always enjoyed outdoor activities. More recently he had been enjoying time at church and meeting new friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Heath Funeral Chapel in Lakeland with a viewing from 1 pm - 2 pm and a service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Restoration Fellowship Church
