Sharon Rose Chalfant Casey, 79 years, 2 months, and 24 days, of Lakeland, Florida, passed from this life to her heavenly home on April 29, 2024, at the Brookdale Highlands Senior Living Center in Lakeland, Florida.
Sharon was born on February 5, 1945, to the Rev. Ray and Amelia Ann Fry Chalfant. She was married to Truman (Dan) Casey on June 10, 1967. Dan and Sharon met at Olivet Nazarene College, now University, and were married one week after Sharon graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics. Sharon was an excellent cook and seamstress, making her own wedding gown and bridesmaids dresses. She taught school for several years before staying home with her children as they were growing. When the children were approaching college age, she entered the workplace in the field of banking. She quickly became a Loan Officer, Branch Manager, and Assistant Vice President before retiring in 2011. Sharon loved to travel and was proud to visit all 50 states and some countries beyond the states. She was raised in the Free Methodist Church, but joined the Church of the Nazarene during college. The Casey's served as pastors of churches in Georgia, Nebraska, and Arkansas. She served on the World Mission Conventions. She also served on the planning committee for the Nazarene Women in Ministry Conference (WILCON).
Sharon is survived by her husband of over 56 years, Dr. Dan Casey of Lakeland; her children: Curtis Casey (Sue Ann) of Loudon, TN, Marcus Casey (Jessika) of Dublin, OH, and Cherie Miller (J. J.) of Lakeland, FL; 5 grandchildren: Jake Miller and Nate Miller of Lakeland, FL, Avery Casey, Finn Casey, and Phoebe Casey of Dublin, OH; 1 sister: Martha Jenkins (Bob) of Cropwell, AL, and a large number of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Ray Chalfant and Amelia Fry Chalfant Jones, and a much-loved stepfather, John Jones, one nephew, Mike Jenkins, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10:00 am at Heath Funeral Chapel with services to follow at 11 am. Interment at Oak Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sharon Casey Memorial Scholarship Fund at Olivet Nazarene University, 1 University Ave, Bourbonnais, IL 60914.
