Sara Burris Lakeland " Sara Burris, Age 88, left for her next dance in heaven on July 21, 2016. Sara was born in Richmond Virginia, and grew up outside of Richmond on a farm in Midlothian, Virginia. She worked as a nursing aid and X-Ray tech in high school where she met her future husband " Dr. Malcolm Burris. They were married on December 28, 1946 and spent 68 years together until Malcolm""s passing last year. Sara moved to Lakeland from New Orleans in 1956 with her husband and two children where she attended Florida Southern College and enjoyed many community and social activities including being a Docent at the Polk Museum of Art, member of several Garden Clubs, Bridge Club, ballroom dancing and double tennis. Sara was an active and committed member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Lakeland. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank A. And Laura G. Pritchard; sisters, Evelyn Pritchard Williams, Elsie Pritchard Schaefer and Kathryn Pritchard Bernstein. Sara is survived by her son, Brent Burris (Ginny) and her daughter, Barbara Burris Stevens; along with six grandchildren, Gabriel, Andrea, Grant and Austin Stevens and Aubrey and Gigi Burris Although Sara suffered from dementia the last decade of her life, she would continue to greet others with her favorite saying ""Everyone loves you"" and offer them a flower from her garden. Her sense of humor, spontaneity and kindness will be missed by those that knew her. A memorial service to honor the lives of both Dr. Malcolm B. Burris and Sara Pritchard Burris will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions in honor of Sara and Malcolm be made to First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801 or SPCA, 5850 Brannen Road South, Lakeland, FL 33813.
