Lakeland: Rosemary Kelly Springborn passed away on April 18, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born to Edward Joseph and Hazel Jeannette (Thompson) Kelly. Her parents preceded her in death as did her infant sister Katherine Kelly; sister Anne (Kelly) Makielski and her brother in law Thomas Theodore Makielski. She is survived by her loving husband Bruce A. Springborn, Ph.D., and her niece Jane Ellen Makielski, niece Mary Therese Waltz (Peter), nephew Thomas Michael Makielski (Joanne) and nephew Daniel Makielski (Carolyn). She obtained a B. S. degree from Purdue University and did post graduate work at Northwestern University and the University of Michigan. She met her future husband Bruce in Evanston, IL, at the Association of American Medical Colleges in 1958 where she was the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Research and Bruce was a Research Associate. They were inseparable from that time forward. Highlights of her career were as Managing Editor of Brewers Digest, Technical Writer at Bendix Systems Division in Ann Arbor Michigan, Editor in Chief of the Books Division at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in Dearborn, Michigan where she wrote and or edited over 39 technical books, some of which are still in print and others were translated into German or Arabic. She then became Director of Copyrights and Contracts at Harper and Row Publications in Evanston, IL. She was then named Managing Editor at Technical Publishing Company in Barrington, IL and she returned to her favorite job as Editor in Chief at TPC Training Systems. She finally decided to found her own technical publishing company Kelly-Springborn Associates, Inc. where both she and her husband Bruce worked in Lakeland, FL. She was a member of several Engineering Societies, the Society of Women Engineers, The American Society of Training and Development, The American Association of Higher Education, and the American Vocational Association, and other technical and training societies. She was an active board member at Travis Vocational Training in Lakeland, FL. She was also active in charity work helping the elderly. Some of her major clients were the Frito-Lay Company, Ford Motor Company, and Caterpillar. Her intelligence and energy will be greatly missed. Because of the current pandemic, there will be no funeral service at this time. A memorial service will possibly be held at a later date. If you are religious, please say a prayer for Rosemary and another for her bereaved husband Bruce. If you are not religious, send a donation to your favorite charity in Rosemary’s name.
