Rose P. Allegato, 84 Journalist Lakeland " Ms. Rose P. Allegato, age 84, went to her eternal rest on March 11, 2015. Rose was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 6, 1931 and moved to Lakeland in 1944. She started her journalism career early, serving as Editor of The Bagpipe at Lakeland High School and Editor of The Southern at Florida Southern College. Rose was a pioneer for newswomen and worked at several newspapers including the Detroit Free Press, Miami Herald and The Ledger, serving as its first woman editor. She was a devout Catholic attending mass every day and was Past President of the Carmelites. She is survived by her sister, Vivien Pennachio, Lakeland; nieces, Rose Pennachio Goodson, Tallahassee, Gerri Pennachio, Lakeland, Tina (Dan) Johnson, Tampa, Sherry Pennachio, Clermont; nephews, Frank Pennachio, Hudson, Dr. Michael (Marion) Pennachio, Clermont, John Pennachio, Ft. Lauderdale; great- nephews, Gary Goodson, Tallahassee, L.J. Pennachio, Tampa; great-niece, Celeste Pennachio, Tampa; great-great-nephew Tony Goodson, Lakeland. The family wants to thank all of the caregivers who walked this last journey with her. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, from 5-7:00 pm with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801. A mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph""s Catholic Church on Saturday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
