Ronald D. “Smokey” Wasmuth Lakeland – Mr. Ronald D. “Smokey” Wasmuth of Lakeland passed away May 30, 2018 due to (cause) at his home. He was (age) He was born in New York on March 15, 1944. He moved to Lakeland from Troy, NY in 1955. He was a 1962 graduate of Kathleen Sr. High School and a member of the class to graduate after the high school moved from Kathleen to its present location on Crutchfield Road. He was an industrial electrician with Kraft Foods for 23 years and Blowmolding Maintenance Planner for Nestle Waters North America for 18 years before he retired in 2010. He enjoyed taking part in Veteran’s activities, being outdoors, fishing, boating and photography. He also enjoyed touring Florida with his wife, Linda, in their restored 1978 Triumph Spitfire Roadster. He was a Ground to Air radio Repairman/Operator in the US Air Force where he achieved the rank of AC2. He served four years during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1040 and believed strongly in the support and recognition of all veterans. He was also a member of Vietnam Veterans of Brevard (County) and was the driving force behind having the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall on display at the “Trail of Honor” in Jackson, MS. He was a member of American Legion Post 4 (Lakeland). He was a ride captain with The Patriot Guard Riders and felt that participation was one of the most rewarding parts of his life. He considered the PRG members as part of his family. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Wasmuth, Sr.; his mother, Helen G. Wasmuth and his brother, John G. Wasmuth. He is survived by his wife, Linda J. Wasmuth; daughters, Sonja L. Wasmuth and Michelle O’Neal-Prud Homme both of Lakeland, FL, son, Jeffrey Morris of Lakeland; a sister, Muriel Berry of Lakeland, a brother, William F. Wasmuth, Jr. of Lakeland; eight grandsons, 2 great granddaughters and several nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held 6:00 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Ave., Lakeland, FL 33801. In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to Vietnam and all Veterans of Brevard, P.O. Box 237225, Cocoa, FL 32922-7225 “Traveling Wall Fund”
