Robert Gordon Penny

Robert Gordon Penny, 56 Security Officer Lakeland-Robert ""Gordon"" Penny, 56, died Saturday, January 26 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center due to Pneumonia. Gordon was a security officer at the Estates at Carpenters. Gordon was born February 29th 1956 in Aberdeen, Scotland and was a graduate of Lochaber High School in Fort William, Scotland. Gordon was very proud of his Scottish heritage but he was also extremely proud to live in the United Sates . Gordon met his wife Sara (Elmhorst) while visiting Lakeland on behalf of a Christian missionary. Gordon quickly fell in love with Sara and romanced her mostly through letters sent after his return to Scotland. Gordon and Sara were married in Lakeland on December 29th, 1985 and then resided in Fort William until 1988 when they relocated to Lakeland. Gordon was preceded in death by his father Robert Penny and his mother Jane Helen Penny of Fort William, Scotland. He is survived by his wife Sara Louise Penny and their children Rosemary, Andrew and Duncan as well as his brother John Penny and sisters Mairi Penny and Sheena Bates. Gordon was a devout Christian who attended Life Church in Auburndale. He expressed his love and faith by the way he treated people. He spent as much time as possible with his children. That included volunteering at their schools and playing with them like a big kid. He had a mischievous sense of humor with his family. Gordon was a supporter of law enforcement. He was a graduate of the Lakeland Police Citizens Academy and enjoyed his time at local shooting ranges. Gordon has a large extended family and many friends in Lakeland and Scotland. They remember him as a man with a gentle spirit who was generous with his time and love. Services will be held Thursday, January 31st at Heath Funeral Chapel at 328 S. Ingraham Avenue in Lakeland. A viewing will be at 9:00 AM followed by a 10:00 AM funeral and graveside service at Oak Hill cemetery at 11:00 AM.
