Lakeland – Robert Roy Gargan (Bob), passed away at home on March 18, 2021. He was 87 years old. Bob was born in Detroit, MI, on May 6, 1933, to Adele Mae (Balchunas) and Frank King. He was later adopted by his mother's second husband, Martin Gargan, giving him his current surname. Bob was married to Laura Anne (Peterson) for 53 years. Bob spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1971, as Sergeant First Class (E-7). He was involved in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He received the Army Commendation Medal, first and second oak leaf cluster, and the Bronze Star upon retirement. After retiring from the military, Bob worked in wholesale food distribution as a buyer until 1954. Bob was a member of Lakes Church in Lakeland, FL, and supported multiple missions’ groups. He was a patriot and supported various veterans' groups. Bob is survived by his wife, Laura, sons, Edward Quintin, Robert (Bob) Gargan, Thomas (Tom) Gargan, and James (Jim) Gargan, daughter, Jennifer (Gargan) Miller, grandchildren, Traci Outlaw, Alicia Stewart, Meghan Bredhal, James Ross Gargan, Madison Gargan, Nathan Gargan, Autumn Miller, Christina Miller, Stephen Miller, and sisters, Sue Kaminiski and Lori Small. Bob was preceded by his grandson, Levi Gargan. A graveside services will be held on March 31, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. He had a life well lived and full of compassion. Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy! John 16:22 Have I not commanded you?
