Lakeland " Dick Phillips, 89, died September 22nd of cerebral vascular disease. He moved to Lakeland as an infant in 1925. After graduating from Lakeland High School he served in the Eighth Air Force in World War II. Post war he attended Rochester Institute of Technology where he earned a degree in Color Photography and met his wife of 63 years, Pat. He and Pat opened Phillips Studio in Lakeland in 1949. In 1962 they built the iconic building that still houses the business. His photography earned numerous awards over the next 40 years and he was an active member of several photography associations. For his service to the industry he was awarded life membership in the Professional Photographers of America, The Florida Professional Photographers, and the Professional Photographers Guild of Mid-Florida. Dick was also active in the Lakeland Exchange Club, serving as President in 1972. He was predeceased by his wife Pat, and is survived by their sons Robin (Leslie), Paul and David (Nicole). He is also survived by grandchildren Owen, Davis, Olivia, Walker and Colin Phillips of Lakeland, and Kathryn Phillips of New York City and Spencer Phillips of St. Petersburg, Florida. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 4th at 2:00 P.M. at St. David's Episcopal Church in Lakeland.
