Richard (Dick) Huffman PLANT CITY, FL - Richard (Dick) Huffman, 92, of Plant City, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017, at South Florida Baptist Hospital. Born on May 28, 1925, in Zanesville, Ohio, he was the only son of Ray and Blanche (Stockum) Huffman. He grew up in Zanesville and was a 1943 graduate of Lash High School. Dick was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War. As a top-ranking student, he then became an instructor in bomb fuses at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, TN. He also graduated from the Great Lakes Aviation Ordinance School. He served aboard the USS Lake Champlain and the USS Randolph. In July of 1946, he married Molly Burley in Zanesville. They were married 61 years and enjoyed traveling the country before her death in December of 2006. Dick graduated in 1949, with top honors, from the Cincinnati College of Embalming. After receiving his license from the Ohio State Board as a funeral director and embalmer, he became the Funeral Director for Hillis Funeral Home. He later went into sales and retired. Dick was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and fishing. He liked spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed his cocktail hour. He is survived by five children - Rick (Pam) Huffman, Melissa Patch, Melinda Calder, Rebecca (Andrew) Kriner, Cheryl (Ron) Humphrey. Other survivors include, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, his niece, Nancy Friel (Dan) Mercer and his brother-in-law, Emmett Burley, Jr. Preceding him in death are, his wife, Molly, two sisters, Roberta (Bobbi) Huffman Quinlan and Elizabeth (Betty) Huffman, his son-in-law, Larry Patch and his sister-in-law Helen Burley. Heath Funeral Chapel, Lakeland, is handling the arrangements and a private memorial service was held.
