R. Wylene Matthews

Lakeland- R. Wylene Matthews went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2012 due to complications of dementia. She always believed she would be taken up in the Rapture but God wanted her sooner and came for her early. Wylene was born on September 25, 1928 in Dudley, Georgia. Wylene was predeceased by Arnold Walker Matthews, her husband of 50 years, parents ET and Emma Lou Vanlandingham and son-in-law Dana Yelinek. Wylene is survived by 4 daughters; Janet Estridge (Von) of Lakeland, Carol Yelinek of Jacksonville, Cathy Stephens (Jeff) of Polk City, daughter in heart Colette Clark (Terry) of Lakeland, brother Curtis Vanlandingham (Nettie Mae), sister Shirley Yates (Tom), 8 grandchildren, Corey (Terry), April (Tim), Jason (Jennifer), Brian (Amanda), Amy (Blaise), Matthew (Christina), Mark, Rebekah, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Wylene was a faithful member of Parkview Baptist Church. She served as the church clerk for many years and was an active member of the choir. Wylene was recently recognized by the Florida Baptist Convention for 50 years of Sunday School attendance. Yes, even on vacation, we went to Sunday School no matter where we were. Wylene served as a poll worker for over 20 years, working her way from doing the books to Deputy Clerk. She was involved in Christian Women""s Club serving in many areas. Wylene ran the kitchen for many church summer camps and Wednesday night suppers for several local churches and was actually paid for working in the cafeteria""s in the school system. Wylene was a Godly woman and all she did was for His Glory. The viewing will be held Tuesday night from 5pm to 7pm, December 11th at the Tribute Center at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL. A celebration of Wylene""s life will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00am at Parkview Baptist Church, 509 Parkview Place, Lakeland, FL, followed by a graveside service at Oak Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Parkview Baptist Church.
