Phillip Arthur Vogel of Lakeland, Fla., passed away peacefully August 24, 2016, after a years-long battle with Parkinson""s Disease. Born Dec. 18, 1941, in Fort Wayne, Ind., Phillip moved to Lakeland in 1974. A graduate of Indiana Technical Institute, he was a mechanical and maintenance engineer. He was employed at IMC Phosphates for 25 years and worked in Polk County""s mining industry before moving to Findlay, Ohio, in 1996. He returned to Lakeland in 2004. A gifted public speaker, Phillip was a member of the Lakeland Toastmaster""s Chapter where he served as president for several years and received many awards. He was also a devout Roman Catholic and a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland where he was a Eucharistic minister and lector. He also volunteered for the Diocese of Orlando and worked with Bishop Thomas Grady to raise funds for the Annual Bishop""s Appeal. He was also a model train aficionado and a member of several model railroad clubs in both Florida and Ohio. He is survived by his children, Timothy Vogel and Christina Brownlow; daughter-in-law, Sherri Vogel; son-in-law, William Brownlow; and grandchildren, Joshua Clendening, Jessica Vogel, Kimber Vogel, Kristen Vogel, Hannah Vogel, Matthew Brownlow and Monica Brownlow; sisters, Judy Wright and Margaret Preston; brothers-in-law Michael Wright, Richard Preston, Richard Troendly, and brother- and sister-in-law Robert and Tammi Troendly, as well as many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Delores.
