Pauline S. " Polly " Murphy

Pauline S. "Polly" Murphy, 92 Pauline Slaughter Murphy was born November 24, 1921 and died of natural causes October 10, 2014 in Lakeland, FL. Polly was born in Denver, CO. Then lived in the Austin TX area before returning to Denver in 1927. The family moved to Washington, DC in 1937 where she graduated high school. She had the honor of being an invitee to FDR's third inauguration in January, 1941. During WWII she worked in the Western Union office in Washington, DC. She married James Thomas "Jim" Murphy in January, 1945, prior to his second deployment to Europe. In 1948 they moved to Cleveland, OH. She was a housewife until most of her five children reached high school age. In 1973 she and Jim moved to Sarasota, FL. Jim passed in 1981. She moved to Inverness, FL in 1995, then to Lakeland, FL in 2014. Polly, predeceased by Jim and daughter Pauline, is survived by her sister, Jeanella Williford of Scotland, MD, her sons Mike (Bev), Brian (Debbie), Pat (Lori), all of Lakeland, FL and Jim (Sharon) of Walhalla, SC, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held graveside at Sarasota Memorial Gardens at noon, Friday 10/24/2014.
