In fond remembrance, we honor the life of Norma Daniels Dockery, our beloved Mother, who peacefully passed away on August 8th, 2023, enveloped in the comfort of her South Lakeland home, surrounded by three generations of her cherished family. Born on March 17th, 1934 in Iredell County, NC, to Celeste and William Daniels, Norma was a true embodiment of humble beginnings and simple love. She was not only fluent in the language of her roots, often referring to it as "Fluent Redneck," but also fluent in the universal language of boundless love, unyielding generosity, infectious humor, and a nurturing spirit that forever imprinted itself on the hearts of those fortunate enough to cross her path.
Fond memories of her childhood stories, her unwavering support for family in times of need, her joy in showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love, her laughter-filled moments watching Family Feud, and her simple pleasures in relishing her favorite snacks painted a picture of her extraordinary love for life and family.
Her most cherished role, serving as an assistant to Dr. Pam Greene for 19 years, was declared her "best job ever." In 2004 she retired, affording her the opportunity to indulge in shopping for her loved ones, showering affection on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, exercising at Curves six days a week, and participating in church activities at Highland Park Nazarene.
Together with her beloved husband, she embarked on adventures spanning the globe, traveling to diverse lands such as China, Australia, Hawaii, Canada, the Azore Islands, Russia, Europe, the Caribbean, and more, creating a lifetime of treasured memories.
Norma has now reunited with her adoring husband of fifty years, Ken Dockery, as well as her brother, Jim Daniels, and sister, Polly Blankenship, in the embrace of eternity. She leaves behind a legacy treasured by her surviving family: son Alan Dockery, daughter Vickie Boyte, and son Brian Dockery. Her presence will forever grace the lives of her beloved grandchildren: Alicia Allen, Kristin Boyte, Matthew Dockery, Lauren Hubbard, Ashley Bean, and Austin Dockery, along with her cherished great-grandchildren: Taylor Boyte, Lawton Coleman, Ansley Allen, Luke Allen, Toby Bean, Brennan Bean, Rowan Bean, Joselynn Bean, Karliah Bean, Lennox Bean, Maris Hubbard, Millie Hubbard, and John Dockery.
A memorial service to celebrate Norma's life will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The doors will open for viewing and visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM, followed by a formal service at 11 AM. A final farewell will be bestowed during a burial service at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 2 PM, where she will find eternal rest beside her cherished husband, Ken. As we bid farewell, let us remember and honor the radiant spirit of Norma Daniels Dockery, a beacon of love and laughter that blessed all of our lives. The world is a better place because she was in it.
