Nancy J Wiegel

August 19, 1934 — February 21, 2018

LAKELAND - Nancy Johnson Wiegel of Lakeland, FL, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2018. Born the eldest of three children to Myron and Barbara Johnson of Springfield, OH in 1934, she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in English from Bates College and soon thereafter penned greeting cards for American Greetings in Cleveland. She married her husband, also of Springfield, in 1958. A lover of language, culture, art and music, she became a world traveler, and worked as a travel agent for many years. A lifelong poet, she could often be found up late at night working diligently to hone her skills. This passion led to the founding of the White Pelican Review poetry quarterly, which she edited and co-managed in her later years. In addition to a world of fond memories, she leaves behind her husband of nearly 60 years, Ronald Wiegel (Lakeland, FL), her son, Christopher Wiegel (Santa Clara, CA), her daughters, Andrea LeDew (Jacksonville, FL) and Erica O'Neill (Yardley, PA), their spouses, and ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Philip McBride Johnson (Amelia Island, FL). The family will be accepting visitors at the Wiegel home, 2020 Wisteria Lane, from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, March 1. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
