Miguel A Quijano Mercado

Miguel Antonio Quijano Mercado was born on March 1946 in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico where he lived until the age of 10. He was one of 3 children born to the late Carmen Mercado del Valle and Jose Agustin Quijano and was the beloved husband of Hilda Mosquera. In 1958 his parents decided to seek new horizons in life and moved along with his brothers Jose and Miriam Quijano to Central Ave. Brooklyn, New York where he lived for 35 years. In the 1970’s Miguel enrolled in Brooklyn College where he completed his college degree in draftsmanship, later he worked Brookdale Hospital, Con Edison for 8 years and the New York Police Department as a radio technician for a decade. He always dreamed about moving back to his native island of Puerto Rico and in 1988 he landed a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an Electronic Technician where he served for 24 years. He eventually worked his way up as the Telecommunications Manager in the San Juan Division which also covered the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 2011 successfully retiring from the FBI he continued to live in San Juan, PR until 2014. During that year he went for a vacation trip to Orlando Florida with his wife Hilda and became ill to the point that he landed in the hospital for 10 days. He decided to stay and move to Florida because of a better health care system and a better quality of life where he can also enjoy his retirement. His daughter Raquel took him into her home in Land O’ Lakes and during his time in the sunshine state his son Miguel Jr made several trips each year to help and spend time with his father and family. In 2017 he purchased his second home in the city of Zephyrhills. After health complications on January 9th 2019 Miguel Quijano Mercado passed away at Advent Health Zephyrhills Hospital. Miguel will forever be remembered by his amazing and caring wife Hilda, devoted brother Jose and sister Miriam beloved children Raquel and Miguel Jr treasured grandchild Alejandra along with countless other cousins, family and friends whom were blessed to know him and enjoy great moments and times together. He loved steam railroads, avation, muscle cars,listening to salsa music, as well as Native American Pow Wow songs where at a young age he participated as a Hoop and Grass Dancer throughout different Native American Reservations with the singing group Brooklyn Drum. His love and devotion in electronic communications for Amateur Ham Radio was a very special one and was his main hobby. He was a great son, dedicated husband, father hard worker and grandfather which enjoyed being with his family, having fun with friends and also helped touched and change the lives of people with his generosity, personality and smile. Miguel was a very happy man who got to really enjoy life and had a very nice sense of humor. Friends and family are invited and welcomed to attend a memorial service on Saturday January 13, 2019 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm and Sunday January 14, 2019 from 10:00-12:00pm at Heath Funeral Chapel located in 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801. Miguel Antonio Quijano Mercado nació en marzo del 1946 en la hermosa isla de Puerto Rico, donde vivió hasta la edad de 10 años. Fue uno de los 3 hijos de Carmen Mercado del Valle y José Agustín Quijano, y fue el amado esposo de Hilda. Mosquera. En 1958, sus padres decidieron buscar nuevos horizontes en la vida y se mudaron junto con sus hermanos José y Miriam Quijano a Central Ave. Brooklyn, Nueva York donde vivió durante 35 años. En la década de 1970, Miguel se matriculó en el Brooklyn College, donde completó su título universitario como delineante, luego trabajó en Brookdale Hospital, Con Edison durante 8 años y el Departamento de Policía de Nueva York como técnico de radio durante una década. Siempre soñó con regresar a su isla nativa de Puerto Rico y en 1988 comenzó su carrera en la Negociado Federal de Investigaciones como Técnico Electrónico, donde trabajó durante 24 años. Eventualmente lo ascendieron a la posición de supervisor de telecomunicaciones en la División de San Juan, PR y como dato curioso fue el primer hispano en tener esa posición que también cubría las Islas Vírgenes Americanas del Caribe. En el 2011 se retiró con éxito del FBI y continuó viviendo en San Juan, PR hasta el 2014. Durante ese año, se fue de vacaciones a Orlando Florida con su esposa Hilda y se enfermó hasta el punto de que ingresó en el hospital durante 10 días, decidió quedarse y mudarse a Florida debido a un mejor sistema de atención médica y una mejor calidad de vida donde también podia disfrutar de su jubilación. Su hija Raquel lo recibió con manos abiertas a su casa en Land O ’Lakes y, durante su tiempo en Florida, su hijo Miguel Jr hizo varios viajes cada año para ayudar y pasar tiempo con su padre y su familia. En 2017 compró su segunda casa en la ciudad de Zephyrhills. Después de complicaciones de salud el 9 de enero de 2019, Miguel Quijano Mercado falleció en el Hospital Advent Health Zephyrhills. Miguel será recordado para siempre por su asombrosa y cariñosa esposa Hilda, su devoto hermano José y su hermana Miriam amados hijos Raquel y Miguel Jr, su preciada nieta Alejandra, junto con otros muchos primos, familiares y amigos que tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerlo y disfrutar de grandes momentos y momentos juntos. Le encantaban los ferrocarriles de vapor, la aviación, los carros classicos, la música de salsa, así como las canciones de los Nativos Americanos de Pow Wow en las que desde muy joven participó como bailarín de Hoop y Grass dancer en diferentes reservaciones de con el grupo de cantantes Brooklyn Drum. Su amor y dedicación en la electrónica como radioaficionado fue muy especial al cual le tuvo mucha, pasión e importancia y el cual fue su principal pasatiempo. Fue un gran hijo, esposo dedicado, padre trabajador con principios y valores y un abuelo especial que disfrutaba mucho compartir estar con su familia, divertirse con amigos como también ayudó a tocar y cambiar la vida de las personas con su generosidad, bondad, personalidad y sonrisa. Miguel era un hombre muy feliz que disfrutó mucho la vida y tenía un muy buen sentido del humor. Los amigos y familiares están invitados y son bienvenidos a asistir al velatorio conmemorativo donde se celebrará su vida el sábado 13 de enero del 2019 de 2:00 pm a 8:00 pm y el domingo 14 de enero de 2019 de 10: 00-12:00pm en la funeraria Heath Chapel ubicada en 328 South Ingraham Avenue , Lakeland, FL 33801.
