Michael Eugene Gay

Michael (Mike) Eugene Gay of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Lakeland Regional Health. He was born on January 1, 1952, to Robert Earl Gay and Mary Lou Duncan in Bartow, Florida.

Mike was a loving son, brother, nephew, and uncle. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. He loved to share his travels as a Merchant Marine with his family and friends through his memorabilia he collected overseas.

God’s plan is not always our plan. Mike unexpectedly spent the past four months in West Virginia after a severe car accident and just moved to Lakeland to be closer to family only one week before his passing. Though we were hoping for more time with him, we are thankful he was surrounded by his family.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou (Duncan) Schaffer, stepfather, Raymond Schaffer, and father, Robert Earl Gay.

He is survived by his brother, Bobby (Sandi) Gay; uncle, Roger (Gloria) Duncan; and nieces Jennifer (David) More; Allison (John) Greschuk; and Julie (Matt) Mayo.

A private family service near the ocean will be held to honor him this summer.
