Melvin Wetherington died suddenly on June 29, 2024, after a short illness.
Mel was born on March 3, 1938, to Evelyn and Thomas “CHET” Wetherington. Mel attended Plant City High School in 1956 and was a graduate of the University of Florida 1960.
He served in the military as a U.S. Army Reservist. Mel specialized in General Building and Contracting. Launching Millwork Specialties of Lakeland and M.C. Wetherington Construction, Inc. in Lakeland, Florida and then established MCW Consulting, a construction company based in Naples, Florida. Mel was a former Rotarian of Naples, FL.
Mel is survived by his wife, Judy Wetherington, their combined children, son; Steve Wetherington, daughter; Lisa Wildes, grandchildren; Joshua Johnson, Kristen Case, Albert Johnson, and step-children; Louis Troiani, Julius Troiani, Tracy DiGiacomo and Kimberly Walker, grandchildren; Enzo Troiani, Ava Troiani, Natalie Navas, Jonathan Zesiger, Giovanni DiGiacomo, and Giancarlo DiGiacomo, Greatgrandchildren; Jordan Lamb and baby Case, and his sister; Dolores Griffin, niece; Melanie Padron and Nephew; Jeff Griffin.
Mel was dearly loved and a respected member of our community and a true Florida boy through and through. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing and was a lifelong Gator fan. His passion was flying his twin engine Comanche plane. Mel and Judy were members of Naples First Baptist Church.
There will be a viewing in Naples, Florida at Fuller Funeral home Thursday August 1, 2024, from 4:30-7:00 pm. Services will be Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801.
