Maywood W. Chesson, Jr.

Maywood W. Chesson, 87, passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2011 from heart failure at his home in Lakeland. He was born in Edenton, NC but spent most of his life in Waverly, VA where he graduated from Waverly High School in 1942. He attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA and graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1947. After serving in the US Navy as a Lt.He began his professional career with American Cyanamid in Lakeland , Florida. He became Plant Manager in 1962 and in 1966 left to join Occidental Chemical in Lake City, FL. as Vice Pres/ Plant Mgr. After leaving Occidental he joined Jacobs Engineering and retired from Jacobs in1997, after spending many years on projects in China, Tunisia and many other places around the world. During his career he was a member of the FL Pollution Control Board 1962, Chairman Fl Chapter AIME 1965, Member Board Trustees LRMC 1965/66, Secretary Stephen Foster Memorial/White Springs, FL., Member Suwannee River Water MGR District Board 1975/1977 and Chairman Florida Phosphate Council 1975. He is survived by his wife Mary Ruth Chesson of 63 years, daughter Debe Jordan(Vern),sons David (Nancy) and Philip (Patty)and7grandchildren,Sheldon,Chesson,Lee,Leslie,Casey Katy and Thomas and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29th at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church.
