MARY CLARK McKNIGHT Elementary Teacher/Homemaker Mary C. McKnight, 92, was welcomed to her heavenly Father's home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 due to dementia. Mrs. McKnight was born April 9, 1922 in Carlisle, PA. She was the youngest of three sisters born to Charles H. and Florence N. Clark. She was a graduate of Dickinson College, a member of Chi Omega sorority and an elementary school teacher. Mrs. McKnight met the love of her life, John H. McKnight, while John was attending Dickinson School of Law in 1952. Early in their marriage, John served in the U.S.Navy and the young couple were stationed in Morocco, where Mary also taught school. The McKnights had two children, Deborah and John, and moved to Rochester, New York in 1958. In 1975, Mr. and Mrs. McKnight relocated to Lakeland where Mary resided until her passing. She was a faithful, active member of First United Methodist Church for over 35 years, leading Sunday school classes and serving on various committees. Mrs. McKnight was a long time member of PEO and served in many capacities. She also was active in the Children's Clothes Closet, Antique Club and Church Circle Groups. Mary was a woman of strong faith and character. Her family was the center of her life. She dearly loved God, her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters and extended family. Her life has truly left an exemplary witness for all who knew her. She will never be forgotten and will be greatly missed. Mrs. McKnight was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John H. McKnight and her sister, Evelyn Craig. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Chilton, Carlisle, PA; daughter, Deborah M. Coker (Charlie), Lakeland; son, John C. McKnight (Karin), Lakeland; and two granddaughters, Candice Morey (Richard), Edinburgh, Scotland and Kristin Coker, Lakeland. A celebration of life in Mary's honor will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the donor's favorite charity in Mary McKnight's memory.
