Mary “Carolyn” Field, born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on June 15, 1939, passed away on October 31, 2023, in Lakeland, Florida.
A 1957 Lakeland High School graduate, Carolyn earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in 1961 with a focus in Early Elementary Education. She taught third and fourth grades for 5 years in Sarasota before working at GTE for 23 years as a supervisor. Carolyn was a natural leader, and from first through third grades she directed the Rhythm Band at McIver Elementary School in Kannapolis. At the time of her death, Carloyn was the Kimberlea Condo V Association President, a position she held for many years.
Carolyn traveled the world and inspired the “travel bug” in many of her extended family. Her sense of humor was contagious and her laugh infectious. She was known as “Vita C” by her good friends because a friendship with her was good for your health.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Alice and Louis Field and cousins Mary Evelyn Secrist and Robert Field. She is survived and lovingly remembered by cousins Dawn Smith (Aaron) of Atascadero, California, Lisa Lukens (Scott) of Pierceton, Indiana, and Tami Sheeran (Pat) as well as cousin-in-law Robert Secrist, all of Jenison, Michigan.
A memorial service will occur on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 11 A.M. at the Lakeland First United Methodist Church. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.firstumc.org/funeral-service/
