Marlene Claire Swick passed away peacefully, the morning of October 16, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born in Napoleon,
Ohio on September 23, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Ford and Bernadine (Crossman) Hann. She passed filled with the love of her family, including her devoted husband of almost 70 years, Theodore Swick.
She is survived by her one sister, Linda Hunt (Michael). She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Hann and sister, Marilyn Tanner.
She was a nurturing mother to her two beloved children, Douglas Swick (Rebecca) and Karen Brewington (Michael). That nurturing, unconditional love extended to her daughter and son-in-law. She was blessed with two grandchildren Sarah Brewington Baarns (Donny) and Ethan Brewington (Laura) and her most recent great grandchild, Junia Grace Baarns. She was so excited to be a great grandmother.
Marlene was not only a loving wife she was an incredible homemaker and very talented seamstress. But the greatest joy in her life was family. She gave 100% of her life to being the best wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was giving to a fault and had total joy when surrounded by her family. She never ran out of love to share.
One of Marlene’s talents was a seamstress sewing everything to clothing for entire choirs, upholstering furniture, drapes, and more. Her daughter reminisces that she never wore anything from a store until she was 15 years old. This was an era when sewing was a tremendous financial contribution to a family. She was an amazing cook sharing her cookie recipes that will live on with her beloved grandchildren. Her family will always remember the lavish meals and holiday celebrations she put together. They were a gift.
Our family is at peace knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior. Her bible was always near along with favorite scripture verses she would share. An evening never ended without her prayers.
Marlene’s incredible creativity, beautiful heart of service, and caring for all in her life will continue to fill the hearts of everyone who knew her. As we celebrate Marlene’s life of love, we invite friends and family to join us in honoring her memory in the chapel at First United Methodist Church, Lakeland, FL on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
