Maria Amezquita

January 27, 1919 — October 26, 2013

Our ""Abuela"" left to be with her Lord and rejoice in the glory of God. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, but above all, she was a faithful servant of her God. She was known as Mami and Abuela with all the attributes that make a one of a kind mother and grandmother. She had a full life, although she became a widow after barely 30 years of marriage, but she was able to fill that void with her church and her grandchildren. She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church for over 35 years and it was only in the last few years when she was unable to attend church. Ever since I can remember, She began her days with the rosary and she ended her day with prayer. When she was at home, she never missed the Mass on EWTN, even though her English was not very good she knew every word. For many years, she worked very hard with the Spanish community at St Joseph""s and the ladies that helped make the coffee and prepare meals for any of the activities can tell you she was the ""boss"" in the kitchen. When Maria walked in, you knew you better pay attention because she was making sure everything was perfect. She also loved to dance and was one of the first ones on the floor at the Spanish dances. She was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Mary and belonged to the Ladies of the Sacred Heart in her native Puerto Rico. Together with His mother, she was also devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and had a big statue right in front of her bed so she could talk to him whenever she wanted to, which was all during the day. The joy in her life was taking care of her grandson Steven so that her daughter and son-in-law could pursue their careers. Then came the girls, las ni""as, Elyse, Alex and Brooke, and she was a loving caretaker until her health did not allow her to do so. She reveled in their successes and suffered their pain. Konnor and Andrew were the latest addition to the family and I regret that they were not able to spend a lot of time with her to get to know her well. I have no doubt where she is right now and she is rejoicing with my dad, her mother and all her brothers and sisters who were waiting for her. She is with her ""Madrecita"" as she called our Blessed Mother Mary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario Am""zquita, and is survived by her daughter Irene Dobson, son-in-law Richard Dobson grandson Steven Dobson and his wife Katherine who was at her side until she closed her eyes; great grandchildren, Elyse, Alexandra, Brooke and Konnor, and great-great grandson Andrew, along with a huge extended family and wonderful friends. Don""t think she is gone, she is still in our hearts and a new Angel is watching over us.
