Margaret "Peggy" Ann Kieffer

April 27, 1935 — June 27, 2021

Margaret (Peggy) Kieffer was born on April 27th, 1935, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Francis and Ann O’Keefe. Her fondest childhood memories were of time spent at her grandparents’ farm in St. Libory, Nebraska. She attended Duchesne College in Omaha where she met her future husband, Bill Kieffer, who was attending Creighton University. They married in 1956 and resided in Iowa City where Bill attended medical school, followed by four years in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins University for his radiology training. After two years in Savannah, Georgia at Hunter Air Force Base, they moved to South Bend, Indiana and then settled in Lakeland in 1971 where Bill practiced at the Watson Clinic. Throughout her husband’s education and professional journey Peggy bloomed in each community in which she was planted. She was a devoted wife and homemaker, raising their four children Michael, Thomas, Leslie, and Christine. Peggy was very involved in The Junior League of South Bend where she was a docent for the local historical museum. She was also a founding member of The Finer Things Antique Club of Lakeland where her beautiful penmanship earned her the honor of writing formal handwritten invitations for each gathering. Peggy was a spirited woman whose sense of humor and resilience were remarkable. She was a gifted musician and artist, supporter of the fine arts and enthusiastic baker with an unmatched sweet tooth. She was an avid reader, completed daily crossword puzzles, enjoyed decorating, gardening, antiquing, and especially spending time with her family. Peggy carried her Irish heritage with pride, researching the O’Keefe family lineage and investing in relationships with her cousins residing in County Cork Ireland. She is survived by her four children, Mike (Fi), Tom, Leslie Tannebring (Jeff), and Chrissy Taylor (Bill), her seven grandchildren, Chris Kieffer, Liz Kieffer, Sydney Springer, Gillian Fazio, Faith Taylor, Max Kieffer, and Nicholas Kieffer, and two great grandchildren, Caroline Kieffer and Ashton Springer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, and her brother, Jerry. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Lake Gibson Village and Good Shepherd Hospice for blessing her with love and support over the past several months. Visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 4:00 - 6:00pm. The service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, 12470 Telecom Drive, Tampa, FL 33637, or Polk Museum of Art, 800 E Palmetto St, Lakeland, FL 33801.
