Lurie Green Albritton, 102 years of age went to her eternal home on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at her home in Lakeland, FL.
She was born in Ft. Meade, FL on September 29, 1921, to the late Don and Erin Green. She graduated from Ft. Meade High School. Lurie worked in local grocery stores.
Later she met and married Melvin W. Albritton (now Deceased) of Brewster, FL where they resided for 12 years until moving to Lakeland in 1954.
She was a metallurgist and then a receptionist for American Cynamid in Brewster for 33 years.
Lurie and Melvin built a home on property in the mountains of North Carolina. They enjoyed their time there in Maggie Valley. After he passed away, she continued to go up with family.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lakeland and taught Sunday School for many years. She also was a member of Maggie Valley Methodist Church.
Lurie enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and ceramics.
She was the go-to person in the family for her memory. She could remember in detail events of the past.
Lurie is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Joan Gibson and son-in-law, John E. Gibson, grandsons, John W. Gibson, Jeffery T. Gibson, great grandson, Brandon W. Gibson; great great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Gibson; great great-grandson, Brantley Gibson; brother, Edgar Green of Washington State; sister, Nell Marlow of Sarasota, FL; nieces, Debra Fortosis of Sarasota, FL, Kathy Roberta of Sarasota, FL, Carol Frugia of Northport, FL, Barbara Coughenour of Lakeland, FL.
She’s preceded in death by her spouse, Melvin W. Albritton, Sister, Juanita Bassett, and Eunice Theon.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 5-7 pm in the Tribute Center at Heath Funeral Chapel.
Services Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 10 am at Heath Funeral Chapel. Interment to follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
