Luis Martinez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Nicholas Martinez and Josefina Leon on September 19, 1918. Years later, Louis and his siblings were orphaned and sent to live at Saint Benedicts Home for Colored Children, in Rye New York. Luis was a World War II Veteran. Shortly after the war, Luis met Delia Nogueras in Spanish Harlem, New York City. He married her on February 8,1947. After his service Luis worked in a factory in Brooklyn, New York and worked his way to become a Supervisor of Housekeeping for the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, at both Fordham and North Central Bronx Hospital. He retired and moved to Florida. Luis resided in The Bronx, New York for many years. He loved to share his life stories and play cards. He loved his life of leisure after a hard day of work, lying in bed watching baseball games, comedy television, listening to music, playing his trumpet, reading spending time with his family and friends. He was known as ""Uncle Louie "" to many people where he offered a helping hand when he could. Luis departed of Natural Causes at the age of ninety-five on September 7, 2014. Luis was predeceased by, his parents and his oldest brother, Carlos Martinez. Luis is survived by his sister; Altagracia Cancel, and his younger brother George Martinez; his wife Delia; his children Josefina Martinez-Garo, Louis Martinez II, Daniel Martinez, Lucia Martinez-Zabala and Josephine Iris Martinez Bazan-Bass; his grandchildren; Andre Garo, Delia Zabala and Rafael Zabala II, Joshua Bazan, Nicholas Bazan, Marcus Bazan and his great granddaughter Mia Joli Bazan. A viewing will be held on Thursday September 11, 2014 from 12:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Chapel in the Tribute Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday September 12, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph""s Catholic Church. Burial at Florida National Cemetery.
