Lois M. Smout

Lois M. Smout was born on October 22, 1914 in Rushville, IL. She was the only child of Frank and Iva Mae Miller. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1932 and Greenville College in 1937. Lois met Charles Smout the only year they were both students at Greenville. They were married in November 1937, a marriage which ended only with his death over 73 years later. Charles"" unemployment caused Lois and Charles to move from western New York to Lois"" home town, St. Petersburg, in 1938, where Bill was born later in 1938 and Les in 1943. Lois made significant contributions to the schools of Pinellas County. She ended her career in 1970 as the chief financial officer for St. Petersburg Junior College. Her avocation was music, playing the organ at churches in St. Petersburg and Lakeland Lois is survived by sons Les and Bill; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. They will all remember her as a supportive wife, who was loving and caring as mother and grandmother. The family requests that friends wishing to make memorial donations consider Light and Life Free Methodist Church, Greenville College (IL), or Florida Presbyterian Homes.
