Lawanna Hires Coggin, 83 Purchasing Agent for Port Everglades Authority Lakeland - Mrs. Lawanna Hires Coggin passed away quietly surrounded by her family on September 23, 2014 at LRMC due to respiratory failure. She was born in Odum, GA, on February 3, 1931. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and also a member of Maiden""s Chapel in Franklin, NC. Lawanna enjoyed painting, flower arranging, and traveling. She and her late husband visited 49 of the 50 states. She took great pride in serving as a Gold Swan Ambassador at Lake Morton Plaza. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James A. Coggin, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Andy) Edmiston, Lakeland; two sons: James A. (Sherrie) Coggin, Jr., Tallahassee; and Howard O. (Nancy) Coggin, Lakeland; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and cousin, Stevie Graham. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer""s Association, 520 S. Florida Avenue, Lakeland, FL, 33801, or to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL, 33801. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary.
