Lakeland " Laurie Herbert Britain, born 10/2/1925 in Shreveport, LA., to Sarah Anita Johns Britain and Levi Herbert Britain. He enlisted into the Marine Corp on August 31, 1943 and served as rifle marksman, field signal school, and second marine division. He participated in action against the Japanese on Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. He was also at Nagasaki, Japan 2 weeks after the atom bomb was dropped and in the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged on January 5, 1946. He attended LSU, Baton Rouge, LA for one year transferring to Centenary College in Louisiana where he was also a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, earning a BS degree in accounting in 1949. He married Mary Lou Ogden in November 18, 1949 and had two children. He was employed at Smith Douglas Fertilizer Co. and transferred to the home office in Norfolk, VA., Later moving to Columbus, OH as controller for the Borden Company for six years before retiring in Atlanta, GA in 1981. He was a member in good standing at First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, FL., where he and his wife served as church greeters for a number of years. He enjoyed playing golf once a week with friends at Imperial Lakes Country Club. He is preceded in death by his son, Warren Herbert Britain and his parents Sarah Anita Johns Britain and Levi Herbert Britain. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou, his son Damon Ogden Britain (wife Debbie Holcomb) Manager of Business Intelligence Applications, Porex Corporation, Fairburn, GA., his sister Norma Britain Brown, nieces and nephews.
