Laura Jane Compton

Laura Jane Compton, 86 Laura J. Compton passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015 from complications of a stroke. Born June 8, 1928, one of sixteen children, to Carl and Lula Camper, in Buchanan VA. Laura came to Lakeland in 1958 with her husband and children from Roanoke, VA. She graduated from Florida Southern College in 1963 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was an English teacher at Kathleen Junior High School and retired after 28 years in 1991. She spent her retirement years dedicated to her extended family, baking and her Methodist faith. She was preceded in death in 1993 by her husband, Russell D. Compton, of 47 years and nine of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Dennis D. Compton, and daughter, Vicki L. Jarvis; Brothers, Lawrence, Joe, Paul and Larry Camper and Sisters, Frances Mundy and Mary Hauser. Four grandchildren, Adrienne D. Flanagan, Kacie Laura (Jason) Bryant, Kyle A. (Jamie) Compton, and Curtice Jarvis. Four great grandchildren, Killian and Will Flanangan, Ansley Bryant and Adalyn Compton. Visitation is Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 10-11am followed by a memorial service at Heath Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Oak Hill Burial Park.
