Julie MacDowell Jackson, 72, Receptionist Auburndale " Julie M. Jackson, 72, passed away after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer on March 18, 2012. Julie was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on July 11, 1939 to the late Dr. Louis G. and Helen (Gartelmann) MacDowell of Lakeland. She grew up in Lakeland, attending Lakeland High School and Florida State University where she pledged Chi Omega Sorority and studied Home Economics. She married William C. Morgan, MD, of Plant City and had two children. She later married her fellow 1957 LHS classmate, Larry K. Jackson, PhD. They recently celebrated their 37 years of marriage, March 7. Julie lived mostly in Gainesville, Florida, working over 17 years for the Department of Surgery, Shands Hospital, as a receptionist. She was well respected by both the medical staff and students. Upon retirements, she and Larry moved to Lake Juliana, Auburndale, and enjoyed days of gardening, antiquing, collecting, and flea marketing. Julie enjoyed the hunt for hard to find items and she often found them. Also, she was forever faithful in remembering everyone""s birthdays and special events with cards and gifts to the very end. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Kathleen Bonneman, and her son James Cole Morgan. She is survived by her husband, Larry, her sister, Sheila (David) Crum of Plant City, her brother, Louis G. (Valerie) MacDowell of Satellite Beach, brother-in-law, Rick Bonneman of Lake Wales, her daughter, Juliann (Jeff) Thompson of Auburndale, her son, Keith (Patty) Jackson of Lakeland, her son, Kevin (Lydia) Jackson of Satellite Beach, her grandchildren, Alex and Morgan Thompson of Tampa, and Simon Jackson of Satellite Beach, her beloved nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted on Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 am at the Heath Funeral Chapel in Lakeland with reception in the Tribute Center following the service. In lieu of flowers, Julie asked that donations be made to the Salvation Army, 2620 Kathleen Rd, Lakeland, FL, 33802 and Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL, 33823. The family of Julie wishes to thank the loving staff of Good Shepherd Hospice House, Auburndale, for their wonderful care. Julie was a dedicated and beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend; though she will be sorely missed, her love of nature, and compassion for others will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
