James Stewart "Cooter" Pollard

James Stewart ""Cooter"" Pollard, Jr., 78 of Lakeland, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, November 4, 2011 of prostate cancer. A true Florida Cracker, he was born in Bradenton, Fl on July 11, 1933. ""Cooter"", as he was known his entire life, graduated from Lakeland High School in 1951 and was Senior Class President. He went on to graduate from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Cooter loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a lifetime sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and was awarded the Trustee Emeritus designation from DU in 1989. He was one of the founding members of the Kissimmee Duck Club where he was affectionately known as ""Camp Master."" He was principal and President of Jefferson-Allsopp, Inc. insurance agency for over 25 years. He served as the president of the Downtown Kiwanis club in 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents James & Georgia Pollard and wife Anne Pollard. He is survived by his wife Shirley Pollard, son, Jamie (Gloria) Pollard of Lakeland, son, Walter (Karen) Pollard of Lakeland, sister Nancy Wines (Mason) of Lakeland, brother Tom (Belle) of Vass, NC, grandsons Cory and Austin, nieces, nephews and many dear lifelong friends Cooter was a one of a kind individual who touched many lives. He will be remembered around many campfires for years to come. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at St. David""s Episcopal Church in Lakeland, FL. Memorials may be made in his name to The Boys & Girls Club of Lakeland
