James J. Eager DBA/Fed Ex Lakeland - James J. Eager passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016. He was born on January 2, 1959 in Springfield, Massachusetts. James enjoyed scuba diving and was active in the Boy Scouts for many years. He received his Silver Beaver Award on April 9, 2016 from the Gulf Ridge Council. He was very proud of this award. James started Scouting in Massachusetts in 1967. He served as a Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He became an Eagle Scout, with Bronze Palm, in 1974. James has served as Assistant Scoutmaster , Unit Commissioner, District Advancement Chair, culminating in service as District Vice Chair. James has been honored with the Scout Leaders Training Award, the District Committee Key Award, the District Award of Merit. James attended Wood Badge in 2008 and is a proud member of the Buffalo Patrol. He has taught at Merit Badge Academy for eight years, most recently teaching the popular Railroading Merit Badge, for which he has been named to the national review team. As part of his Wood Badge ticket, James started working with the Central Florida Council and their Life To Eagle Program. He was a Database Administrator/Data Analyst FedEx Services for over 15 years including time at Watkins Motor Lines before it was purchased by FedEx. He presented at MetaData DAMA conference and DB2 Users Group conference (IDUG). He also helped write IBM DB2 certification test. He also worked at Walt Disney Corporation while a consultant for Ciber and for AT&T, Phoenix Insurance Company and General Electric. One of his many accomplishments was the he wrote four articles for the online magazine Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine (Jul/Aug 2013, Mar 2014, Sep 2015, Nov 2015). He served in the United States Navy. James was preceded in death by his mother Teresa Eager. He is survived by his wife Judy Eager of 35 years, father, William Eager, two brothers, William and Robert Eager, sister, Rose Curley and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 3:00 pm and service at 4:00 pm at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Gulf Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America 13228 North Central Avenue, Tampa, FL 33612.
