Iwan Gantina Kurniawan

Iwan Gantina Kurniawan, of Mulberry Florida, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 75. He was born in Bogor, Indonesia on April 18, 1949, to Amoeng and Djenaboen Irtamihardja. He worked with Holland America Cruise Lines for several years, which brought him to the United States.

Iwan married his first wife, Kathleen (Campbell) Kurniawan in 1981. They had two children, Arie Kurniawan (Kar Leng Wai) and Adam Kurniawan (Elizabeth Lane). He resided in CT over 30 years before moving to Florida. During his time in Connecticut Iwan worked at Aetna in the IT department.

In addition to his career and family, Iwan lived a vibrant life. He was a dedicated member to South Congregational Church in East Hartford and enjoyed helping neighbors and working at events at Rentschler Field. He continued with helping others when he moved to Florida, within his church community, the Kiwanis and his surrounding neighbors. He also enjoyed travel throughout his life and frequently returned to Indonesia to visit family.

After retirement, Iwan moved to Mulberry, Florida, where he enjoyed the sunshine and warmer weather. During one of his trips to Indonesia, he met his wife Sri (Ruth) Renggani and they were married on August 26, 2015. Together, Iwan and Ruth enjoyed attending regular service at First United Methodist Church in Lakeland. They also found community at City Blessing Ministries in Orlando where he and Ruth enjoyed the ministries within the Indonesian community. Iwan was also an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Citrus Center in Lakeland, FL.

In addition to his wife, his sons and daughters in law, and first wife, Iwan is also survived by his brothers, sisters and their families and extended relatives in Indonesia. Iwan is also survived by Ruth’s children, Verlin Marchella Setya and Abednego Setya.

The memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Dr, Lakeland, FL 33801, on Saturday, March 15, at 4:00 p.m.
