Lives of great men all remind us
We should make our lives sublime
And departing leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.
By: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Horace Howard Hanchard, the second of eight children was born in Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies on August 27, 1936, to the late Mr. Vincent Washington Hanchard and Mrs. Mary Ann Hanchard (Foster)
Horace attended the College of Insurance, New York, New York. He achieved the position of General Manager at British Fidelity Insurance in Montego Bay Jamaica and Insurance sales with
Prudential Insurance in New York.
In 1961, Horace (HH) met and married his beautiful wife and the love of his life for 63 years, Gloria (GG) Ilene Salmon. This union produced their three children who were his pride and joy, Sandra Thiele (Hanchard), Maxine Hanchard-Foote, and Horace Alexander Hanchard.
In 1978, Prudential Insurance was instrumental in sponsoring Horace and his family to the United States where he continued to work in the Insurance industry.
Horace Hanchard was the family's storyteller and had an unmatched memory and wit. He became the keeper of the family’s oral history and never failed at family gatherings to remind us of the people and places that were important as part of the life journey that was ours. He did so eloquently with his hilarious anecdotes and humor. He was kind and selfless. When he prospered, everyone shared in the abundance.
Although he is no longer with us, we find solace in the love he shared and the values he instilled.
Horace is predeceased by his brothers Ralph Hanchard and Keith Basil Hanchard.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Gloria (GG) Hanchard; his children Sandra Thiele (Jonathan), Maxine Hanchard-Foote, and Alex Hanchard; his grandchildren, Katohmy Laeyn Foote (Mami)-currently residing in Japan, Dr. Karla Adriana Banks (Dr. Jalen Banks), and Dr. Amanda Rachel Thiele; and great-granddaughter Emilia Sage Banks; his brothers Osmond and Clanson; his sisters, Myrtle, Carmen (Fay) and Rona; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
His memory will forever remain in our hearts!
Rest in Peace Dear HH, Dad, Papa HH, and Great Papa!
