Herbert Benjamin Hamic, 96, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025. Born on March 19, 1929, in Rising Fawn, Georgia, to William R. and Marjorie Brooks Hamic, Herb's life was defined by dedication, integrity, and love for his family and friends.
In 1940, his family moved to Dunnellon, Florida, where he spent his formative years. After graduating high school, Herb proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force before continuing his education at the University of Florida and later earning his CPA Board Certification. On March 10, 1961, he opened his CPA practice in Lakeland, where he served his community with integrity, wisdom and just enough humor to make tax seasons a little more bearable. His son Steve joined him in 1978, and the firm founded by Herb continues on today in its 64th year.
An avid golfer, Herb found great joy on the course, but his true passion was the time spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his loyalty, kindness, generosity and sense of humor—qualities that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Herb is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, April Hamic; his sons, Mike Hamic, Steve Hamic (Jane), Brad Austwick, and Blake Austwick; and his adored grandchildren, Bailey Hamic, Lance Hamic, Ben (Herb the 3rd) Hamic, Leah Hamic, Alston Austwick, and Cameron and Cory Austwick; great-granddaughter, Emersyn Rose; and his loving sister, Hazel Williams.
He is preceded in death by his son, Herbert B. Hamic, Jr. (2017), and his two brothers, Bill Hamic and John Hamic.
