Henry Emerson Sherwood, 96, went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2021, after a short illness. He was a loving, kind and generous son, husband, dad, and uncle. But most of all he was a faithful servant to God and his church. Henry was born on August 23, 1925, in Vestal, New York to Judson H. and Louise G. Sherwood. Henry graduated from Binghamton Central High School in Binghamton, NY. On July 4, 1947, he married his true love, Doris Louise Weiss. He went on to graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1950, where he studied architecture and structural engineering. His love of architecture and the work of Frank Lloyd Wright was a constant in his life. He served in WWII in the US Army Air Corps. He worked for architectural firms in Binghamton, NY and the Syracuse, NY area before moving to Lakeland, Florida in 1981 to join Davy McKee, followed by Jacobs Engineering. He then started Sherwood and Sanford, Inc. in 1992. Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Doris; his parents; and his daughter-in-law, Cylinda. He is survived by his daughter, Janice, and his son, Daniel; four generations of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Scott Lake Baptist Church, 5811 Scott Lake Road, Lakeland, Florida 33813. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 450 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Florida 33823, or Park Avenue Baptist Church 1135 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13903.
