Helen Parker Wear, 89 Lakeland " LCDR Helen Parker Wear, passed away at Lakeland Regional Health on September 12, 2015. She was born on May 22, 1926, in Olean, New York, and has been a resident of Lakeland, Florida, for the past forty years. Helen P. Wear also completed her PhD in Nursing at the University of Maryland. She was a retired Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy who served at the Navy Bureau of Medicine, in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, and as the head of the Education Department during her time of naval service. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph""s Catholic Church and a former member of the Florida Navy Nurse Corps Association (FNNCA) and the Navy Nurse Corps Association (NNCA). She was preceded in death by her husband, Ledley H. Wear, her brothers Joseph Parker and Francis Parker, brother-in-law Harry Askew, and her step-daughter Shirley Wood. She is survived by her step-daughter Ann Jacob, sister-in-law Virginia Askew, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangement by Heath Funeral Chapel. We will honor the memory of Helen Parker Wear at St. Joseph""s Catholic Church in Lakeland, Florida, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 12 noon.
