Harry Jenkins

Harry Madison Jenkins, 81, Owner/Operator Lakeland " Harry Madison Jenkins, 81, died July 23, 2012 at Southland Suites Assisted Living Facility. He left in peace after a battle with throat and lung cancer. He was of the Christian faith. Harry was born in Atlanta, GA, on February 13, 1931. He lived there until 1995 when he moved to Lakeland, after his wife died, to be near his older brother, Gene Jenkins. Upon high school graduation, Harry served in the United States Army. He then returned to Atlanta where he went to work for his father in his dental lab in downtown Atlanta. In time, he bought out his father and ran the lab until he retired. Harry loved playing golf at Cleveland Heights Golf Club and never met a person he didn""t like. His daily trips to Southgate and Oakbridge Publixs always took three times as long as he knew everyone in the stores and had to stop and speak to all of them. At 6""5"" tall with white hair and a big smile on his face, he was hard to miss. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Willie Wilson Jenkins, brothers, William Frederick, Jr., and Robert Eugene Jenkins, and his wife, Sarah Jenkins. He is survived by his nieces, Bonnie Jenkins Edwards and Linda Jenkins Bader, nephews, Michael Gregory Jenkins and William Frederick Jenkins, III, granddaughters, Taryn Lindsey Jenkins and Rikki Lee Jenkins, and 11 great nieces and nephews, Julie Edwards Pivovarnik, Shannon Edwards Stotts, Katherine Edwards Velasco, Kimberly Jeanne Edwards, Tucker Madison Jenkins, Griffen Walker Jenkins, and Carson Gregory Jenkins. There will be a memorial service in the chapel at Heath Funeral Chapel on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 5 pm and interment at Oakhill Cemetery at a later date.
