Gregory Allen Irwin, age 23, died of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Monday, January 2, 2012 at home with his family surrounding him. All of heaven must have been rejoicing at his Homecoming. Greg was born on May 6, 1988 in Lakeland, FL. He attended Valleyview Elementary, Lakeland Highlands Middle School and graduated from George Jenkins High School in 2006. He graduated from Tallahassee Community College with an AA degree in 2008 and was a senior at University of Central Florida majoring in Digital Media, when he had to withdraw due to his illness. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland and Pack 104 and Troop 104 in scouting. Greg lived with the motto ""NO WORRIES"" so it was very fitting that ""HAKUNA MATATA"" from the Lion King was tattooed on his arm. Even through his cancer and treatments, that mentality persevered and he rarely complained about any of it. He lived to have fun and be an awesome friend to all who met him. He touched so many lives and is loved by so many family and friends. He was a fantastic artist with pottery, drawings and computer graphics. He is survived by his parents, Louis and Cheryl Irwin of Lakeland; brother and sister in law, Paul and Katy Irwin of Jacksonville, FL; grandparents, Jewell and James Damon of Clarksville, AR; Aunt, Alice Hazel of Lakeland; Uncle and Aunt, Billy and Diane Wade of Belington, WV; Aunt and Uncle, Mary and John Thomas of Frostproof, FL; Uncle, Charlie Irwin of Clarksville, AR; and Uncle, Larry Irwin of Clarksville, AR. He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Charles Irwin and maternal grandparents, Billy and Barbara Wade. He is also survived by many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins and his precious pug, Jasmine. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and staff at Moffitt Cancer Center and Cornerstone Hospice for the care provided for Greg. Special thanks to Greg""s Aunt Alice, who was invaluable assisting with Greg""s care and transportation to Moffitt. There will be a Memorial Run at 7 am on Saturday, January 7 beginning at First Presbyterian Church, Lake Hollingsworth. Visitation will be Friday night from 5-7 P.M. at Heath Funeral Chapel. Services will be at First Presbyterian Church at 10:00am, Saturday, January 7 followed by graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Suncoast Chapter, 3507 E. Frontage Rd, Suite 300, Tampa, FL 33607 or the charity of your choice.
