Gregoria Gonzalez

Gregoria “Gloria” Gonzalez, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 14, 2021 surrounded by family. She was born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico on July 11, 1933 and was raised by her loving parents Fernando Fortiz and Providencia Chevere in the Catholic faith. She was the second oldest of five children and learned at an early age to take care of the home. She went to business school and had dreams of moving to the United States. That dream was fulfilled in 1960 when she relocated to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. While in her teens, she fell in love with a young man who years later she would marry and be blessed with four wonderful children. She had a heart of gold and always had a smile on her face. She was very generous and although at times she had little, she would provide to others who had less. She loved spending time with family and friends and dancing was a favorite pastime. She was a homemaker and took pride in keeping her house spotless and caring for her children. She spent a lot of time in the kitchen cooking meals for family and for friends who would stop by and visit. She was a wonderful cook and her grandchildren especially loved everything she made for them over the years. She is survived by her loving daughters Ivette Cortes (Jimmy) of Brooklyn, NY, Ana Maria Gonzalez (Mike) of Matawan, NJ and Rosie Cruz (Jaime) of Lakeland, FL; eight grandchildren Melissa Cortes, Debbie Demeter, Louis Morales III, Emily and Chelsea Centeno, and Jonathan, Zachary and Jennifer Cruz; and six great-grandchildren Serenity Thomason, Dominique and Kew Hawkes, John Paul and Ryan Rivera and Louis Demeter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Francisco “Paco” Gonzalez, and son Gregory Gonzalez. She will be cremated on Thursday, March 18, and will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery with her son, Gregory, in Brooklyn, New York at a later date. ___________________________________________________ Gregoria “Gloria” González, 87, falleció en paz en su casa el Domingo, 14 de Marzo del 2021 rodeada de su familia. Nació en Naguabo, Puerto Rico el 11 de Julio de 1933 y fue criada por sus padres amorosos Fernando Fortiz y Providencia Chévere en la fe Católica. Fue la segunda hija mayor de cinco hijos y desde temprana edad aprendió a encargarse de las tareas del hogar. Estudió negocios en la escuela y soñaba con mudarse a los Estados Unidos. Ese sueño se realizó en 1960 cuando se mudó a Williamsburg, Brooklyn. En su adolescencia se enamoró de un joven, quien años después se convirtió en su esposo y fueron bendecidos con cuatro hijos maravillosos. Ella tenía un corazón de oro y siempre tenía una sonrisa. Siempre fue generosa y aunque hubo momentos de escasez, le daba a los que tenían menos. Le encantaba pasar el tiempo en familia y con amigos, y su pasatiempo favorito era bailar. Era ama de casa y se enorgullecía en mantener su casa impecable y en la crianza de sus hijos. Pasaba mucho tiempo en la cocina preparando comida para su familia y amistades que la visitaban. Era una cocinera maravillosa y sus nietos en especial les encantaba todo lo que ella les cocinaba durante los años. Gloria fue sobrevivida por sus hijas amorosas: Ivette Cortés (Jimmy) de Brooklyn, NY, Ana María González (Mike) de Matawan, NJ, y Rosie Cruz (Jaime) de Lakeland, FL; ocho nietos: Melissa Cortés, Debbie Demeter, Louis Morales III, Emily y Chelsea Centeno, y Jonathan, Zachary y Jennifer Cruz; y séis bisnietos: Serenity Thomason, Dominique y Kew Hawkes, John Paul y Ryan Rivera, y Louis Demeter. Fue precedida en la muerte por su esposo de 58 años, Francisco “Paco” González y su hijo Gregory González. Ella será incinerada el Jueves, 18 de Marzo y será sepultada en Evergreen Cemetery con su hijo, Gregory, en Brooklyn, New York, en una fecha posterior.
