Gordon Eugene Gibson 77 Junior High School Teacher Gordon Eugene Gibson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 13, 2011 age 77 years due to cancer. Gordon was born to Mabel Irene (Wilhelm) and Donald James Gibson April 23, 1934 in Lansing, MI. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Sandra, daughters Eugenia (Mark) Jarema of Saginaw, MI, Elizabeth (Scott A.) Burke of Tustin, MI and son David (Karen) Schmidt of Lakeland, fl. Grandchildren Shelby Burke, Scott C. Burke, Garret Schmidt and CJ (Christine) Tammen of Lakeland, FL, and great grandson Austin Tammen. Brother Kenneth (Vicki) Gibson of East Lansing, MI, Sister JoAnn Carder of Iowa City, IA. Step-sister Bobbie (Dave) Brown., Okemos, MI and many nieces and nephews. Gordon graduated from Eastern HS in Lansing , MI in 1953 following graduation he joined the Marine Corp in San Diego CA. He was a proud Marine through and through. While attending MSU he worked as a campus police officer and graduated with a masters in education. He taught at Pattengill Jr. High in Lansing for 25 years where he had a positive impact on many young lives. Some of his proudest accomplishments included designing and building homes in MI, SC and FL. Retiring from teaching in 1990 he and Sandy began Phase II in Clemson SC where Gordon worked for Champion Aviation for 6 years. He made many lifelong friends. Phase III included moving to Florida to be closer to friends and family. During this time Gordon volunteered with the Charlotte County Sheriff""s Office Air Support and Talbot House Ministries in Lakeland where he enjoyed the many close relationships developed through these organizations. Gordon was pre-deceased by his parents, step-father and a niece. A celebration of life will take place at Heath Funeral Chapel on Thursday August 18, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. with a reception to follow the service at the Tribute Center. The family will receive visitors at the chapel one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial service will be held in Lansing, MI on a future date.
