George Murry Fouts, Sr. died peacefully at his daughter’s home on Monday, September 18, 2023. He was born in Mulberry, FL to Dr. Manly and Irvie S. Fouts on May 2, 1927. After graduating from Mulberry High School in 1944, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Southern College and a Masters of Science degree from Florida State University. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War conflict. George had thirty-one years of service with Polk County Schools. He was a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge 91 for over seventy-five years, a member of the Lakeland Shrine Club, Egypt Temple Shrine in Tampa, the Royal Order of Jesters – Tampa Court, and various other civic organizations. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lakeland.
George was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Gloria, his son, George, Jr., and his grandson, Jason.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Gaffney (Neil), daughter-in-law, Patty Fouts (Riley Short), two granddaughters, three great granddaughters, one grandson, and one great grandson.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Dr., Lakeland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 12502 USF Pine Dr., Tampa, FL 33612, or St. Jude Children’s Cancer Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
